Wolfegg

This little visited church of St Catherine of Alexandria is situated in the beautiful little town of Wolfegg in Baden Wurttemberg, near the Palace. Johann Georg Fischer was the architect 1733-6 and he may have been involved in work in the Palace too. The church is a short 3 bay oblong wall pillar with galleries and nave oval dome, round dome in front of the choir. and rounded apse design because of the limited space. The land falls away sharply to the west and the entrance is at the side.

The interior decor is the best that Fischer had managed so far. The nave fresco (below) is by Joseph Spiegler (1735), and shows the event in 1487 that led to the original Franciscan foundation in 1502.
It transferred to the Augustinians in 1519.

The high altar is by Johannes Schitz (1736).
